Acting teachers are always advising students to observe their daily lives to see how hidden intentions manifest themselves dynamically through behavior in everyday life. I’m always on the look out for these spontaneous actions, and they happen a lot. But just now was particularly interesting.
My mom walked into my room to talk to me, but I didn’t want her in there; however, I did want to hear what she had to say. (She was talking about some new reality show on the OWN network.) So instead of telling her to leave, I gently grabbed both her shoulders and slowly pushed her backwards towards my door as I listened appreciatively to her story.
What? Weird.
Sidenote: My former acting teacher Sarah Jane told our class a great related story about the time she and her husband realized they didn’t know where their 3-year-old daughter was. They were afraid that she had fallen through the railings on their staircase, a frequent fear of theirs at the time. So Sarah Jane ran toward the stairs, but she (subconsciously) was so terrified of finding her daughter dead on the lower level that she ran with her head turned backwards looking behind her. (Her daughter was fine.)
I love people.
